One of the most iconic videogame characters of all time just turned 25 years old. We celebrate Sonic's birthday with an special event to remember the amazing adventures of the world's most famous hedgehog. Since his first appearance in 1991 with the video game 'Sonic The Hedgehog' for the Sega consoles Mega Drive and Master System, the saga was an instant success.
25 years after that, after dozens of games, spin-offs, sequels, even an original TV series and lots of new characters later, Sonic is still having adventures with his friends Tails, Knuckles, Amy Rose, Cream, Charming and many more, always fighting evil Dr. Robotnik.

Mega Drive / Master System
1991
After the huge success of Super Mario, created a few years before by Nintendo, Sega was trying to find its own character. After a design contest, the company chose the Sonic design by Naoto Oshima. The game, with an amazing and advanced design for the time it was made, was programmed by Yuji Naka and sold more than 15 million copies worldwide
Mega Drive / Game Gear
1993
Inspired directly by the “pinball levels” featured on Sonic The Hedgehog, with a new style of playing that replaced the original one. It was also the first game of the saga completely produced in the United States.

1994
Lanched shortly after Sonic 3, this game was the first and only one featuring the Lock-On technology when another game cartridge was introduced into it making changes and adding new features to the game. It was also the first game that introduced Knuckles as a playable character.
Dreamcast
2001
The last game of the Sonic saga created for Dreamcast was also the last game created for a Sega console. It was created as a natural sequel for the successful Sonic Adventure, although it sold less copies than the previous one. Sega decided to stop launching consoles after the failure of Dreamcast and focused only on designing games.
Gamecube
2002
A huge compilation of 20 games, most of them originally launched for Mega Drive, and som for Game Gear. Most of the games were locked at the begining, so the users had to keep playing to unlock them. Later, in 2004, it was also launched for PlayStation 2, Xbox consoles and PC as Sonic Mega Collection Plus.
Nintendo DS
2005
The first Sonic game created for the Nintendo DS portable console. It recovers the experience of the original 16-bit gameplay and 2D stages, although the characters were designed in a more 3D style.

2007 / 2009
Launched exclusively for the Wii console, Sonic and the Secret Rings follows Sonic on a quest to stop the villain Erazor Djinn with stages inspired by The Thousand and One Nights and mechanics designed to take advantage of the Wiimote control. It had a Sequel in 2009 called Sonic and the Dark Knight.

2010
Following the 2D-3D combination from Sonic Unleashed, this game tried to compyl with the hard critics that the previous games received to improve gameplay and create a better experience. The adventure takes place in a huge theme park and features a lot of new characters and mechanics.

With two different games for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS, the latest game released is also the one that the fans of Sonic consider the worst Sonic game ever. Launched with a lot of bugs and control problems, together with a lot of dialogue and a low FPS, the most valued thing about the game was its new multiplayer system

The most successful game in the sonic Saga with more than 31 million copies sold was its sequel. It was originally launched for Mega Drive and it was the first time that it introduced the character of Tails, the flying fox, making it the first game that allowed to play cooperatively with a friend at the same time.
